Big Oaks Recreation Area on Hartwell Dam located 1 mile passed the Savannah River/Lake Hartwell Dam on the GA side or 5 miles from Hartwell, GA. Free. Playground, picnic area, restrooms, boat ramp and facilities for handicapped. Small visitor’s Center, where you can request to watch a short informative film on the building of the dam. Kids can ride bikes and you can walk dogs on a leash. On the dam you are open to the elements (there is no shade and no protection from the wind) so on cold days it is really cold. Wear a coat, sunscreen; bring a hat, etc… |
