River Rafting is a popular thing to do here. The film Deliverance was shot here and it changed the area into a white-water rafting mecca. There are areas for beginners and for very experienced rafters.
Chattooga National Wild and Scenic River offers some of the finest white water experiences in the country. Whitewater rafting and wading in rapids can be deadly. Be careful and go with experienced guides.
To possibly see others rafting you can hike a short .25 mile trail that will take you to Bull Sluice, a famous rapid. Be careful watching the action. You have to be on a 14 foot cliff! To get there, find the parking area on the South Carolina side of the Hwy 76 bridge that goes over the Chattooga. Park there and you’ll find the trail.
