Humanity has had a fascination with wind and sail for thousands of years. Writers, poets and explorers have all penned descriptions of the wind in the wires and the snap of canvas in the breeze. You owe it to yourself to experience the magic, excitement and even the tranquility of a day on the open water. Sailing is a wonderful family activity and once you try it, we are sure you will want to build on previous memories of wind and waves over and over again. So come and join us. Feel the wind in your hair and the spray in your face and be a part of a tradition and history extending back before the time of the Pyramids.

Western Carolina Sailing Club (WCSC)
located off SC Hwy 187 in Anderson
WCSC is a private sailing club that allows members to camp, dock their sail boats, use the lodge and join in all the social events that the club offers. You can see it from the lake by looking across from Portman Marina for a large sailboat mast on shore. They have sailboat docks in a small cove around the bend. During their annual open house you can see if you would be interested in joining. I have been to an open house, there was no pressure to join, the people were really nice and the place seems great and less expensive than I would have guessed. You don’t need your own boat. They have little ones you can use or you can help crew another member’s boat. They have dock parties with hot dog cookouts, a private beach, playground and beautiful views of the lake. Many members are from out of town and it seems like a good environment for singles and/or families to socialize. Their phone number is 864-226-6561 and their web site is www.wcsc-sailing.org
